You should send this DM to every new follower

(If you want them to join your newsletter)

If you’re creating organic content on LinkedIn, X, or Instagram, then you need to read this.

Because I’m about to share one of the most underrated ways to grow your newsletter.

I call it the Welcome DM

Here is how it works:

Every time you get a new follower (or connection request), send them a DM thanking them and inviting them to join your newsletter.

(Spoiler alert: it really is that simple!)

Obviously, you want to put your copywriting hat on and explain your newsletter value prop in a compelling way.

That way, people can easily see why subscribing is worth their time.

But if you nail the copy and implement this consistently, a meaningful chunk of your new followers will turn into new subscribers.

Why I’m such a big fan of this tactic

There are 3 reasons why I really like this tactic:

  • It’s intent-based - you’re only reaching out to people who’ve already taken an action that signals interest. They’re far more likely to take the next step and subscribe.

  • It’s scalable - on platforms like X and IG, you can automate it. On LinkedIn, you can’t fully automate, but a VA can handle it for you.

  • It compounds - every new follower becomes another chance to grow your list with very incremental effort, if any, and without having to think about it.

Pretty sweet.

My version of this tactic

I’ve been doing on LinkedIn for over a year.

But instead of DMing every new follower, I send it to anyone who sends me a connection request - which happens dozens of times a week.

The DM itself shares a few pieces of my best-performing content first (so they get value upfront), and then ends with a soft CTA to join my newsletter.

That little tweak - leading with value before the ask - can make a big difference in how the message is perceived.

Try it this week and let me know how it goes.

Here’s quick example of what it looks like:

The Prompt

Here’s a prompt to build your Welcome DM script (using the same formula I use for mine):
