Alex Hormozi just dropped a new masterclass on how to create irresistible offers (both free and paid).

His biggest insight?

In his experience working with hundreds of companies and building thousands of funnels, there are only 3 types of lead magnets that actually work.

Let me break them down for you.

Type 1: Reveal a Problem

The goal here is to show your prospects what they’re doing wrong.

So you want to give people something that exposes a hidden mistake - an audit, a quiz, a checklist, an assessment.

When someone discovers they have a problem they didn’t know about, two things happen:

  1. They instantly trust you (because you revealed it)

  2. They see you as the logical solution (because you clearly understand the problem)

Hormozi’s example:

“7 Mistakes Homeowners Make When Fixing Their HVAC”

Simple. Easy to create. And it positions you as the expert who can fix it.

You reveal the pain. You own the painkiller.

Other examples of this type:

  • “Free website audit - see what’s killing your conversions”

  • “The 5 resume mistakes that get you auto-rejected”

  • “Quiz: Is your sales process costing you deals?”

Type 2: Trial of the Solution

This one’s very interesting.

The goal is let your prospects feel the result before they pay.

You want to give people a real taste of the actual outcome - for free.

When someone experiences the result firsthand, selling becomes effortless. You’re not convincing them it works. They already know it does.

You’re just selling continuation.

Hormozi’s example:

A company that gets local businesses ranked #1, #2, or #3 on Google Maps.

Their lead magnet?

“We’ll get you ranked for free. Then we’ll call you in 7 days and ask if you want to keep it.”

Not surprisingly, they’re crushing it.

Because by the time they call to follow up, the prospect has already seen the result. The sale is basically made.

Other examples of this type:

  • “Free first lesson” (for a course or coaching program)

  • “We’ll write your first email for free” (for an email agency)

  • “Free trial week” (for a gym or membership)

Type 3: One Step of a Multi-Step

The play here:

“Extract” a single high-value component from your full paid service and automate it as a free lead magnet.

(I personally call this method the “Unbundling Approach.”)

This is way more compelling than “request a quote” or “book a call.”

Because you’re giving people a tangible deliverable.

Hormozi’s example:

A fashion consultant who used to say “book a call for an assessment.”

She switched to offering a free color palette analysis — what colors you should wear based on your skin tone and personality.

One small piece of her full service. Fully automated. Now converts 10x better.

Other examples of this type:

  • “Free brand voice guide” (from a full branding service)

  • “Free keyword research report” (from a full SEO service)

  • “Free meal plan for your first week” (from a full nutrition coaching program)

The Big Takeaway

If you only remember one thing after reading this post, let it be this:

The more real your lead magnet (the more it costs you to deliver it), the more likely it is to work.

Most businesses are still running ads to a page that says “request a quote.”

But no one wants to request a quote.

So, give people something they actually want (i.e. a result, an insight, etc.).

Then build your conversion process around that.

Now, as usual, I want to make it as easy as possible for you to execute this framework.

So with that in mind, I’ve created…
