My favorite email tactics are the ones that let you nurture and drive conversions at the same time.
This is one of them.
I call it…
The Disappearing Lead Magnet Drop
Here’s the idea:
Take a valuable resource you normally wouldn’t give away for free - like a module from one of your paid courses.
Then email your whole list and invite them to check it out for free, but only for a limited window (usually 2-3 days).
When the deadline hits, you take it back down so nobody can access it anymore. And you send a follow-up email to everyone who opened it up:
“Hey, noticed you checked out [asset] - how’d you like it? Hope it was helpful. If you want more help to [accomplish goal], you should check out [your full product].”
Here’s why it works:
Everyone loves a free preview - giving away something you’d normally charge for makes people pay attention and feel like they’re getting away with something.
Urgency gets people to actually use it - a 2-3 day window pushes people to open and consume the resource now, instead of “later” (which usually means never).
You nurture and qualify at the same time - your whole list gets value, and you walk away with a segment of high-intent people you can follow up with directly.
Now, if you want to see what this looks like in practice…
Here’s a real example from one of our verticals
We recently ran a Disappearing Lead Magnet Drop for our Premium Ghostwriting Academy - giving away the “Ghostwriter Editing AI Library” (5 AI prompts we built for our paid students).
Here’s what the announcement email looked like:
And here’s the follow-up email (sent the next day):
Notice how the follow-up is super short (5-6 paragraphs). It asks the reader whether they’ve used the resource and then soft pitches them on taking the next step.
The Prompt
Last but not least, here’s an AI prompt to help you build your own Disappearing Lead Magnet Drop campaign (in a fraction of the time):
